I purchased this scanner based on good reviews but I'm completely disappointed. First unit: - Randomly returned all-black scans: I tried scanning to PDF an 8 page document. The first time it returned 2/8 all-black pages. The second time it returned 4/8 all-black pages (all different from the first time). Next I scanned each page as an image and once it also returned an all-black scan. - Unresponsive buttons on the unit: I often had to press a button a second time to get a response from the scanner. Second unit: - The first time I tried to use the scanner it gave the following error message: " Release the lock switch, detach the USB cable and reconnect. Scanner driver will be closed" (needles to say, the scanner was unlocked). - After that it only produced all-black scans, regardless of the settings and output format. - Unresponsive buttons on the unit: I often had to press a button a second time to get a response from the scanner. - I completely removed the software and reinstalled from scratch. I got the same problems, with the aggravation that the buttons on the unit became totally unresponsive. Other info: I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. The Canon scanner driver was version 20.4.0.16. Initially I installed the software from the CD, which included Canon Quick Menu v. 2.4.0. Then I installed the software from their website, which included Canon Quick Menu v. 2.6.0. Bottom line: The scanner is going back to the store and I'm giving up on the CanoScan LiDE 220.
